Interesting statistics about the Music Industry
Bob Baker pointed out an interesting posting on the Long Tail blog, with some interesting statistics about the Music Industry.
Perhaps things aren’t as bad as most people expected. My personal belief is that artists will be compensated in almost exactly the same way as OpenSource Software Developers are. Compensation will find its way to those at the top of the music meritocracy, from the “fans” and/or commercial partnerships.
It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds. Hopefully, market forces will nudge things away from the absolutely abysmal choice of government regulation and compulsory licenses. Unfortunately, it’s still early to bet against the Majors and their lobbyists, peddling their influence on Congress.
